Tom Truong

AREAA National

At 12 years old, Tom Truong started his entrepreneurial career by baking home made cookies and competing with the girl scouts after he saw his family buying them from the neighborhood girls. He commissioned his younger brother, sister and their friends to go door to door selling his fresh baked cookies over the girl scouts’ packaged one. In his early years, Tom had multiple paper routes, making money before and after school. His high school summers consisted of running a landscaping, painting company with his brother and 2 best friends. During his time at Umass Amherst, Tom ran a DJing business, reaching out to various student organizations to help them with their music and partying needs. As a Drummer, Tom played in band and made money as a musician throughout high school and college.

After College, Tom worked in the Insurance industry, making his way from the mail room, to sales, to accountant, to office manager and ultimately AREA Chief Financial Officer for Arthur J. Gallagher, a publicly traded company and the 3rd Largest Insurance Brokerage in the US. After 14 years in Insurance, Tom left the corporate world and went back into business for himself. He started with a Laundromat and quickly expanded it into a chain of 6 Environmentally Safe Dry Cleaning stores in the Boston area. Another venture started with a small bagel & coffee shop and then parlayed that experience into a thriving Function Facility called “Acacia Functions at Indian Meadows Country Club”. Along his entrepreneurial career, Tom flipped properties and invested in Real Estate Developments. From 2008 to October 2014, Tom focused his energy in his “Realty Direct” Franchise which grew from 3 partners 6 years ago, to over 100 real estate agents strong and four locations in the Greater Boston area. As of October 1st, 2014, Tom being the leader that he is, brought excitement and opportunity to his franchise team and joined forces with Carrington Real Estate Services.
